This house balances its urban hillside location with a tree-house like quality. Leafy views, large windows, an ecoroof, and doors that fold open onto an elevated deck all lend to a natural, peaceful environment. The house was tucked into an established neighborhood, and care was taken to keep the neighborhood impact down by creating much living space below street level. Insulation and energy efficiency were key design factors, and green building principals were used throughout. The long term plan is return most of the lot to its natural state, with native plants and natural landscaping.
